Crystal-clear waters, penetrated by the Caribbean sun creates a breathtaking blend of vibrant colours to entice all who see it to explore the plethora of coral reefs and tropical islands which are scattered across the archipelago.

The Rosario and San Bernardo Islands make up a protected national park and is a paradise for divers and travellers seeking private island luxury alike. Whether searching for pure-white sandy beaches, spa retreats or complete solitude and serenity, Rosario and San Bernardo never fails to make dreams come true. Due to the rich and illustrious past of these tropical waters, the 2 hour boat trip to the islands becomes a romantic, historical ride past forts, castles and defensive stone structures which once protected the coastline of Cartagena from 16th and 17th century pirates and famously from the notorious buccaneer to Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Francis Drake.

Delight your senses with a trip to the San Martín Aquarium, located within the islands where daily dolphin and shark shows wow every kind of visitor, from families, to couples to interested individual tourists. Sailing, fishing, swimming and relaxing also appear high on the list of priorities in this amazing luxurious hidden-gem island chain in the Colombian Caribbean.

Climate: Humid, Tropical
Temperature: Average 28 - 30 degrees centigrade

The climate in The Rosario and San Bernardo Islands is very agreeable year round. Although the sun is virtually constant year-round, relief is always at hand in the form of a dip in the shallow waters that surround the islands and from the tropical breeze which gently caresses through the palm trees.

The residents of the islands are descendants of African slaves who were originally transported to the “New World” by Europe’s pioneering explorers. These friendly and relaxed islanders are now enjoying life and the fruits that the rich Caribbean Sea has to offer as a pay back for their inhumane past. Always ready to welcome sailors and divers to enjoy a fruit cocktail on their small slice of paradise, the people of this archipelago are strong, skilled sea-farers who retain the spirit for celebration which comes from their African roots.

Tierrabomba Island   Only 45 minutes from Cartagena’s dock is Tierrabomba Island. A popular tourist spot for its sandy beaches, excellent fish cuisine, delivered to your plate directly from the sea and the forts of San Fernando de Bocachica and San José which once stopped 16th and 17th century pirate attacks.
Barú Island   This beautiful island is famous for its stretches of soft-sanded beaches and crystalline waters, perfect for diving and bathing.
The Rosario Islands   Made up of 27 main islands and innumerable small island outcrops, these islands are perfect for scuba-diving, snorkelling, kayaking and generally exploring this wondrous place.
San Martín Aquarium   A day trip to this aquarium really shows off the plethora of marine life that is so abundant around the Rosario Islands.
San Bernardo Islands   These islands are largely undeveloped and as such are a paradise for native Caribbean marine-life such as dolphins, turtles and every kind of tropical fish imaginable. There are also islands which have been turned into luxury retreats with an emphasis on conservation and eco-awareness.
