In 1617, this amazing
convent was commissioned to be built by Doña Catalina de
Cabrera who donated the large sum of money necessary to ensure
its construction. The Santa Clara Hotel was chosen to be
situated in its current location due to the large number of
fresh water wells that were present on the site. The luxury
hotel group Sofitel have since fully renovated the convent and
have remodelled it to its current breathtaking state.
It is now a boutique hotel with a large emphasis on relaxation
and delicious spa treatments. The interior decor of the hotel
has remained loyal to its historic colonial and republican
past but boasts contemporary touches to make the Santa Clara
